Veteran wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni will look to achieve yet another milestone during the third ODI match against Australia in Ranchi on March 8. Dhoni has the chance to make his hometown appearance memorable as he stands only 33 runs short of reaching 17,000 runs in international cricket. The former Indian cricketer, who has featured for India and Asia XI in international cricket has accumulated 16,967 runs.
Dhoni has scored 4,876 runs in Tests, 10,474 runs in ODIs and 1,617 runs in T20Is. Dhoni has scored these runs at an average of 45 from 528 matches. He has scored 106 half-centuries and 16 centuries in international cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Rahul Dravid (24,208), Virat Kohli (19,453), Sourav Ganguly (18,575) and Virender Sehwag (17,253) are few other batsmen who have crossed the 17,000 run mark.
During the first ODI match in Hyderabad, MS Dhoni joined the elite list of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid to complete 13,000 runs in List A cricket.
In the same match, MS Dhoni also became the highest six-hitter for India in one-day international cricket. Dhoni surpassed Rohit Sharma’s 215 sixes in ODI cricket.
MS Dhoni had an off day on the pitch as the veteran batsman was sent back to the pavilion for a golden duck by Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa. Dhoni had four half-centuries in the last four matches he played against Australia.
India and Australia will play their third ODI match JSCA International Stadium Complex in Jharkhand. India is currently 2-0 up in the five-match ODI series and will be looking to continue their momentum in the third match as well.
