Indian cricketer MS Dhoni may soon join politics after retiring from international cricket. MS Dhoni is likely to join the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and enter team Narendra Modi ahead of assembly elections in Jharkhand.

Former union minister and Jharkhand leader Sanjay Paswan started the speculation about Dhoni joining the BJP before elections. Paswan said, “On this issue, there has been a discussion for long, although this decision will be taken only after his retirement.”

“Dhoni is my friend, he is a player of world fame and there have been discussions on bringing him into the party fold,” Paswan added.

Dhoni was one of the few celebrities whom BJP chief Amit Shah met last year during ‘Sampark for Samarthan’ program before the general elections. Dhoni may also be BJP’s chief ministerial candidate for Jharkhand state.

Dhoni is the only captain in the history of cricket to have won all three major ICC trophies. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India won 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. Dhoni also led India to 2010 and 2016 Asia Cup triumphs.
