Kane Williamson creates history for New Zealand cricket in World Cup

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson became the highest run-scorer for the Blackcaps in World Cup history. Kane Williamson surpassed his teammate Martin Guptill to become the highest run-scorer in a single edition of World Cup.

Martin Guptill had scored 547 runs in 2015 World Cup, while Kane Williamson has scored 548 runs in the tournament so far at an average of 109.50. With his 548 runs, Kane Williamson became just second batsman for New Zealand to score more than 500 runs.

As far as today’s match is concerned, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. New Zealand started the innings slowly and lost one wicket in the powerplay. New Zealand’s Martin Guptill was gone for just 1 run as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed by with his lethal delivery.

Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls were looking good as they contained their wickets by Nicholls was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for 28 runs. Williamson then notched up 30th 50 run partnership with Ross Taylor and with that, they became the pair with the most number of 50 run partnership for New Zealand.
