Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah on Saturday attained a huge Test landmark after he claimed his 50th wicket on day 2 of the 1st Test against West Indies. Bumrah dismissed Darren Bravo in his first over after tea. By doing so, he outdid Ravichandran Ashwin to become the Indian bowler with fewest deliveries to achieve 50 Test wickets mark.
While Bumrah took 2,464 deliveries to claim his 50 wickets, Ravichandran Ashwin had taken 2,597 balls to attain this milestone. Nevertheless, with regards to matches and innings taken, Ashwin still remains the fastest Indian bowler to 50 Test wickets. Jasprit Bumrah matched Narendra Hirwani and Harbhajan Singh both of whom took 11 games to reach the feat. Hirwani had taken 19 innings and Harbhajan and Bumrah have taken 21 innings.
But among the fast bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest to 50 Test wickets overthrowing Mohammed Shami and Venkatesh Prasad, both of whom had takes 13 Test to attain the feat.
Jasprit Bumrah may have made it to the record books but it was Ishant Sharma, who made an impact in the match. Ishant Sharma, claimed five wickets, with three in seven deliveries. Ishant Sharma’s 5/42 demolished Windies’ middle order, turning the match in favour of India.
Windies were 189/8 in their first innings, 108 runs behind India’s 297 runs total, Ishant Sharma’s five wickets haul began when he dismissed Kraigg Brathwaite for 14.
He then went on to dismiss Roston Chase (48), Shai Hope (24), Shimron Hetymer (35) and Kemar Roach (0).
