IPL Auction 2018: Nepal's 'Shane Warne' Sandeep Lamichhane scripts history after Delhi Daredevils bought him

Sandeep Lamichhane became Nepal's first cricketer to get the IPL contract as Delhi Daredevils bought him at the players auction in Bangalore today. Sandeep was the only Nepali player involved in the IPL auction. This 17-year-old cricketer was bought for his base price of Rs 20 lakhs.

This leg-spinner had a fantastic performance in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, which helped Nepal to stay at the eighth position. According to PTI, Sandeep had scalped 14 wickets with 17 economy averages and 4.67 economy rate in six matches and he was second in the highest wicket taker in the tournament.

Sandeep took five wickets in two practice matches and was also part of the first match against New Zealand in Nepal, which he won by 32 runs. With the help of his five wickets, Nepal had entered in the knockout for the second time after defeating Ireland with eight wickets.

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke was also impressed with Sandeep's performance, who had chosen this teen to play for Hong Kong T20 Blitz. Clarke then chose this leg-spinner to play for his Western Suburban for the NSW premier cricket season.

Sandeep's father, who was born in Sanga, used to work in Indian Railways and spent two or three years in India too. During this time he was impressed with the players like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. He has also been inspired by Australian spin legend Shane Warne.
