Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have also been a consistent team. They have won the title twice, first as Deccan Chargers and second as Sunrisers.
The main reason behind the success of SRH is that, their auction strategies have been superb all thanks to their think tank.
This time around, SRH have seven slots to fill, including two foreign players. They have a decent Rs 17 crore left in their budget.
Ahead of the auction, SRH released the likes of Martin Guptill, Yusuf Pathan, Deepak Hooda and kept hold of Khaleel Ahmed, T Natrajan and Sandeep Sharma. The also released all-rounder Shakib Al Hassan as he is serving the ban handed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for failing to report the bookie approach.
Here’s a glimps at three players that SRH might target in the forthcoming auction:
Robin Uthappa:
SRH have a settled pair of openers in the form of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow, but they are highly reliant on the duo and if they don’t plan an alternative, they might face difficulties.
Having a backup opener will be helpful for the management as well as the captain, and Robin Uthappa could be the solution.
The best part about Uthappa is that the batsman can bat in the middle order as well, so if SRH feel that they need a middle order batsman, they wouldn’t have to panic as the 34-year-old will fit in perfectly.

Glenn Maxwell:
SRH has quality all-rounders like Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan, who have enough fire power. But there are no power hitters, and this is where the team lacks.
Sunrisers need an attacking batsman who takes minimum time to settle and can uplift the lower middle order and Australia’s Maxwell fits perfectly for this role.
If SRH goes with Maxwell, then their big problem of not having a strong lower middle order will be addressed.

Sheldon Cottrell:
The West Indies pacer adds a different dimention to the bowling unit. The natural angle that he creates always troubles the right-hander batsmen. He can swing the ball both ways and can bowl at death overs too.
The action of his helps him to deliver perfect yorkers, and that’s the reason why he becomes difficult to hit.
Untill last season, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the go to bowler during the death, but he is struggling to get back in form, so having Cottrell will help the team as well as the vetran bowler.
