IPL 2019: Steven Smith to make comeback in IPL but won’t lead the Rajasthan Royals; here are 2 big reasons

One of the star Australian cricketer Steven Smith is likely to make his comeback in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Rajasthan Royal (RR) franchise. But along with his comeback, there is bad news for RR and Steven Smith’s fans that he might not be leading the side. As per a report in the Mumbai Mirror, he is unlikely to be considered for the position.

Reportedly, there are two big reasons for this, first that unfortunately he has been banned by Cricket Australia from captaincy for two years. Which means he might make a comeback as captain from 2020.

Also, BCCI did not allow him and David Warner to play IPL although they have been allowed by Cricket Australia. So, BCCI could walk ahead with same rule and might ask the franchises to not name Smith and Warner captains of their respective sides.

And the second reason could be that the fact that Smith will not be playing full IPL. As per reports, Smith will miss first few games if IPL starts before the last week of March and will surely leave IPL early if named in ODI squad for World Cup.

So, Ajinkya Rahane, who led the team in the previous season, looks all set to keep the job of the leader for the upcoming season as well.
