Former Australian player Shane Warne, the newly appointed brand ambassador of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals feels that former Australia captain Ricky Ponting shouldn’t be a part of IPL if Indian coach Ravi Shastri can’t. Ponting has been made a part of Australia’s coaching staff for the upcoming World Cup as he is also the head coach of Delhi Capitals.

In 2015, Ravi Shastri was moved out of IPL’s governing council by the BCCI owing to potential clash of interests, who was then the India’s team director. Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Warne said, “This is not for me to say but if the BCCI decides Ravi Shastri cannot be part of the IPL, then I don’t see how Ricky can be.”

Ponting was recently made Australia’s assistant batting coach for the 2019 Cricket World Cup for boosting their batting performance. The two time World Cup winning captain will start his work with Australia’s away ODI series against India and Pakistan. Ponting was made coach of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals on January 3, 2018.

Ponting after getting Australia’s responsibility said, “I’m really excited to be joining the coaching group for this year’s World Cup. I’ve enjoyed my previous short-term roles with the ODI and T20 Teams but World Cups take on a whole different meaning for me.”

Australia will be playing a two-match T20I and a five-match ODI series against India from February 24. Australian team is currently going through their worst phase as their two pivotal players are banned for a year because of their role in ball-tampering. The current World champions will look to win the away series before the World Cup starts as they are in dire need of motivation.
