IPL 2019: Know this 16-year-old and the youngest crorepati in IPL bought by Virat Kohli's RCB

Indian Premier League auction is done and dusted and the who and who’s of the cricketing world are excited as much as we are. There were many surprises for us as a fan and one such incident was when IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore bought a 16-year-old and the youngest of all, Prayas Ray Barman for 1.5 crores, 7.5 times higher than his base price of 20 lakhs.

Born in West Bengal’s Durgapur, Prayas is a right-arm leg-break bowler who was brought up in New Delhi, where his father works as a general physician. Prayas’ initial days of cricket began at the Ram Pal Cricket Academy in South Delhi’s Gargi College. Barman managed to grab the attention in the Ambar Roy Sub-Junior U-14 cricket tournament after which he was picked for Bengal U-16 team and shifted his base to Kolkata, where he lived with his grandparents.


Barman made his List A debut for Bengal in Vijay Hazare Trophy, he played his first match against Jammu & Kashmir. After getting picked for Royal Challengers Bangalore, the place where his sisters works as an IT professional.

IPL 2019 auction finished on December 18 in Jaipur with every team buying their players in a fixed amount they were allotted by the BCCI. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and Jaydev Unadkat going for the highest bid in the auction with Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals buying the respective players for 8.4 crores each.
