Delhi Daredevils were doing really bad when it came to performing. They have been at the bottom-most position in the ongoing IPL season. The team was depending on their skipper Gautam Gambhir t lead them to the glory of IPL title after he had done the same for Kolkata Knight Riders. Winner of two IPL trophies with KKR, the second most-experienced captain in the IPL, Gambhir decided to step down from his post two days after Delhi suffered their fifth loss in six games in IPL 2018.

The DD skipper, Gautam Gambhir had famously left the captaincy of the team and has been replaced by young Shreyas Iyer since then.

The change seems to have done the job for DD after Shreyas led his team to two wins off the three matches they have played under the captaincy of Iyer.

Iyer played a sensational knock of 93 runs off just 40 balls in his first match as the captain of Delhi Daredevils. Delhi hoped to turn things around with the change in leadership and seemingly they have been able to do exactly that.

Earlier Gambhir had said on April 25, “I take full responsibility for the position we are in. And looking at the position, I have decided to step down as captain. Iyer will take over. I still feel we have the team to turn things around this IPL,”.

“Absolutely my decision. I was the one who initiated the meeting (with the team owners). I thought that I haven’t contributed enough and at the same time, the performance of the team… I had to take the responsibility being the leader of the ship. So I feel that it was the right time.”
