Indian cricket team records in world cup that are unforgettable

With no doubts in mind, India is one of the most successful teams in the world when it comes to cricket. The men in blue has already won the World Cup twice (1983 and 2011). Before india starts their campaign against South Africa on the 5th of June in the 12th edition of the ICC World Cup, 2019, let us go back to the retrospective and glance through the Indian cricket team record in the World Cup.

Every year, cricket fans witness many record but there are only few of them which are remembered for ages. But there are some records set by indian cricketers in the World Cup which are astounding.


1) Sachin Tendulkar.

When it comes to ODI cricket, Sachin Tendulkar has almost 50 percent of the records to his name. Starting from is debut, Sachin Tendulkar played his first match for India at the age of 16. Sachin has been featured in the World Cups for team India for six times, he shares this record with Pakistan’s Javad Miandad. Talking about his achievements Sachin hold the record of most centuries (six), sixes (27), fours (241) and fifties (15).

Sachin Tendulkar is the only individual in the world to get two Man of the Match trophies before the age of 20 in the World Cup. He also hold the record of highest run scorer in the World Cups, Knocking 2276 runs in 45 appearances.

Sachin also holds the record of scoring most runs in a World Cup (Single Edition) with 673 runs in 11 matches in 2003 at South Africa.

2) Most catches in a single match.

He has a record too. Yes we are talking about Mohammed Kaif. Kaif has the record of most catches in a single game. He has four catches to his name against Sri Lanka in 2003.

He shares the record with Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar against Scotland in 2015 and Pakistan’s Umar Akmal against Ireland in 2015. Anil Kumble has the record of most catches (14) in all edition.

 

3) Ganguly’s incredible feats.

Sourav Ganguly is in the list for number of records in the World Cup. He has played three World Cups for team India from 1999 to 2007, captaining the side in 2003.

Ganguly holds an exclusive record of involving in three 200 plus partnerships, In 1999 World Cup, his first highest partnership of 318 runs cam alongside Rahul Dravid. The second of 244 runs came against Nimibia in 2003 World Cup with Sachin Tendulkar.

The last partnership of 202 runs came alongside Virender Sehwag in 2007 against Bermuda, his knock of 183 not out came against Sri Lanka in 1999 which is the highest score made by an Indian in the Tournament.
