IND vs SL: Rohit Sharma on cusp of joining MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli in elite list

Following a dominant performance in the T20 series against West Indies, the men in blue will look to continue the winning impetus against Sri Lanka in the 3 match series, which will also be India's second T20 assignment in the lead-up to T20 World Cup later this year.

Rohit Sharma will be hopeful of that his team does a repeat of the show against Windies. Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been rested but India has plenty of fire power at disposal, leaving Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid with selection conundrum.

Rohit Sharma may be thinking about the perfect team combination but the Indian opener has a chance to join Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni in an elusive list. If Rohit manages to get 63 runs in the first T20I match against Sri Lanka, he will become only the third Indian skipper after Kohli and Dhoni to reach the landmark. Overall, Rohit will be the 10th captain to do so in the shortest format.

The 34-year-old will be leading the team for the 26th time and if he gets past the 1000-run mark, he will be equal to Babar Azam's tally of attaining the feat in 26 innings. The Indian skipper also has an opportunity to go past Martin Guptill as the leading run-getter in the shortest format.

Rohit Sharma had scored 66 runs at an average of 22.00 in the T20I series against the Windies and Rohit would eye better returns against Sri Lanka. He is just 37 runs shy of going past Guptill in the elite list.

Hitman may include one more feather to his already illustrious cap but the opener can also lead India to their best-ever winning streak in T20Is. A win in the series opener would be India's 10th in a row T20I win.
