Ind vs Eng T20 WC 2022: Can team India break their knockout jinx; semifinal preview, weather, pitch report and more

It has been nine years since team India won their last ICC trophy, and five years since India won their last ICC knockout match and the list of failures in the ICC tournaments goes on. MS Dhoni was the captain when India won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013, however since 2013, the men in blue have struggled to win any ICC trophy.

Final of the 2014 T20 World Cup, Semi-finals of the 2015 Men's World Cup, 2016 Under-19 final, 2016 T20 World Cup semi-final, 2017 Champions Trophy, 2019 Men’s World Cup semi-final, 2020 Under-19 World Cup final and 2021 WTC: each one of them has been nothing short of a heartbreak.

This pattern of being clinical in the group stages and then giving away to the heat of the event at some point in the knockouts has troubled team India in each and every ICC tournament since 2013. India has played eight knockout matches in ICC tournaments since the 2014 World T20, having three wins and five defeats.

Looking at the English side skipper Jos Buttler and Alex Hales have been the source of most of the runs for the team, as both have knocked a half-century each.

Bowling attack led by pacers Mark Wood and Sam Curran can promise a tough start to Indian batting lineup. However the fielding seems to be an issue for the English side.

Talking about the Indian side, the return of KL Rahul's form has been a blessing. Plus Virat Kohli's consistent powerful knocks has been a key factor. Suryakumar Yadav has been phenomenal with his batting and Arshdeep Singh has shown some promising spells.

Taking into consideration, India's positives are its fielding and middle order bowling attack. Its spinners have not been that effective, though have managed to take wickets. However, their economy have been expensive. So, there seems to be a little concern.

As per experts, the weather in Adelaide will be partly cloudy on Thursday, however, with no chances of rain, there will be a full game without any disruption. The temperatures will hover between 22° C to 13° C.

Pitch report:

The pitch in Adelaide Oval has been bouncy and the is good for batting and the short square boundaries will tempt the hitters to go big. Despite bouncy pitches, spinners will also get favours.
