India won their second ODI match against Australia by 8 runs in Nagpur and with this, they also won their 500th ODI match. India is now leading by 2-0 in the five-match ODI series. Indian skipper Virat Kohli was awarded the man of the match trophy for his 120-ball 116.
Australia was looking good as their openers set the stage for them before two back to back wickets shifted the momentum in India’s favour. Aaron Finch was dismissed lbw by Kuldeep Yadav for 53-ball 37, while Kedar Jadhav took Usman Khawaja’s wicket for 37-ball 38. Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Shaun Marsh for 27-ball 16 in the 24th over.
Glenn Maxwell was clean bowled for 18-ball 4 by Kuldeep Yadav, while Ravindra Jadeja’s amazing throw dismissed Peter Handscomb for 59-ball 48. Alex Carey was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav for 24-ball 22. Nathan Coulter-Nile was clean bowled for 4 by Bumrah’s fantastic Yorker. Pat Cummins came in and was caught behind by MS Dhoni for a duck.
Marcus Stoinis made an amazing half-century when Australia was under pressure. But Vijay Shankar came in and spoiled the party for Australia as he dismissed Stoinis in the first ball of the last over, Stoinis made 65-ball 52. For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the highest wicket-taker, while Jasprit Bumrah and Vijay Shankar took two each. Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket each.
Earlier India made 250 runs from 48.2 overs. Opener Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan did not give India a good start as Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck and his partner Shikhar Dhawan made 29-ball 21 before he was dismissed lbw by Glenn Maxwell. Indian skipper Virat Kohli came in and played a fantastic knock as he made his 40th century.
Ambati Rayudu couldn’t prove his mantle once again as he was dismissed for 32-ball 18 by Nathan Lyon. Vijay Shankar was looking good as he made 41-ball 46 before his unfortunate dismissal by Adam Zampa. MS Dhoni came in and was sent back to the pavilion by Zampa. Kedar Jadhav too was dismissed by Zampa for 12-ball 11.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made 40-ball 21 before he was dismissed by Pat Cummins. Pat Cummins for Australia was the highest wicket-taker as he took four wickets. Adam Zampa took two wickets while Nathan Coulter-Nile, Glenn Maxwell and Nathan Lyon took one wicket each.
India and Australia will now play their third ODI at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on March 8.
