Virat Kohli and team management’s decision of not playing Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin in the first Test match against West Indies have not gone down well with many. After Sunil Gavaskar, former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin targeted the decision of management to not include Rohit Sharma in playing XI.
Mohammad Azharuddin said that if you take a big player like Rohit Sharma, you show some respect. Mohammad Azharuddin highlighted that Rohit Sharma should have given a chance in the playing XI as he is currently in very good form. Azharuddin also said that they should take a look at Rohit’s Test record.
Rohit Sharma played Test cricket for India during India’s tour of Australia where he performed well. Rohit has scored five half-centuries and a century in his last 15 Test innings and according to many, he should have played ahead of Hanuma Vihari.
“As far as Hanuma Vihari has concerned, he has got enough chances. If you are picking a player like Rohit Sharma in the squad, then I think you should play him in the XI. Because according to me, his record is not at all bad. The stats are there to see. He is such a good player and does well in ODIs also. So he deserves a long run in the Tests,” Azharuddin said while talking to Aaj Tak.
India is currently playing the first Test match against West Indies where they have made 297 runs in the first innings and bundled out the Caribbean team for 222 runs. India is currently batting in their second innings and at the time of publishing this story, India is at 12-0.
