The West Indies cricket team dealt a fresh blow on Monday as all rounder Andre Russell was ruled out for the rest of the World Cup due to knee injury.
Batsman Sunil Ambris will be replacing Russell, who was unable to bring his brilliant IPL form to the World Cup in England and Wales.
“The International Cricket Council has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 has approved Sunil Ambris as a replacement player for Andre Russell in the West Indies squad for the remainder of the tournament,” the ICC said in a statement.
Russell who was crowned player of the tournament in IPL 2019 season got off to a flying start at the World Cup taking two wickets and giving away just four runs against Pakistan, where Windies won the match by seven wickets.
Although, Russell took just three wickets and made a total of 36 runs in defeats against Australia, England, Bangladesh, he was seen limping during the matches before he missed a game against the Kiwis, where they lost by five runs.
