Kalra is the only Indian player in the Indian team to play under-19 World Cup final. He lives in Azadpur Mandi, Delhi. His father Praveen Kumar is a businessman. Manjot's mother wanted him to study and to move forward in his life on the same basis.
Manjot's father revealed an interesting fact about him saying that Manjot was a bright student in studies so we thought he would go ahead in studies. At the same time, his elder brother was more interested in cricket. Manjot used to play matches with his elder brother.
In auction of IPL 11, Manjot sold at his base price for 20 lakh rupees. He was bought by Delhi Daredevils. A controversy arose after Manjot's involvement in Team India under-19. There were allegations that Manjot could not play in the World Cup because his age is more than 19 years. However, all allegations proved wrong and Manjot did not have any problem in joining the team.
