MS Dhoni in trouble for using Indian Army symbol on his gloves; ICC asks BCCI to remove it

Social media was abuzz after it found out MS Dhoni was sporting an insignia of Indian Army that symbolises the regimental dagger of the Indian Para Special Forces. Netizens poured love after the picture of MS Dhoni’s gloves went viral on social media.

But MS Dhoni using Indian Army insignia has struck a recent controversy. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to remove the logo from MS Dhoni’s gloves.

"We have requested the BCCI to get it removed," Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager, Strategic Communications was quoted as saying by the IANS.

According to ICC guidelines, “The ICC equipment and clothing regulations do not permit the display of messages that relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes during an international match.

In 2011, Dhoni was given honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel. This year in February, during an ODI series against Australia, team India wore Army caps in honour of slain CRPF soldiers.

India defeated South Africa in their first World Cup match by six wickets. MS Dhoni dismissed Andile Phehlukwayo with his lightning-fast stumping and also scored 34 runs off 46 balls. India will play their next match against Australia on June 9.
