ICC hands one year suspension to this Afghanistan bowler, know why

Afghanistan pacer Aftab Alam, who took all three wickets for his team against New Zealand, has been suspended for one year following allegations of misbehaviour with a female guest at the teams hotel.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board earlier started an investigation and said in a statement that Aftab Alam’s alleged misconduct off the field has handed him a one year suspension for code of conduct violation at the ICC World Cup 2019.

Alam was sent home from the World Cup on June 27th because of the serious allegations at the Southampton hotel where the Afghanistan cricket team was staying.

When he was sent home, the ICC issued a statement saying thet Aftab Alam was being sent home under “exceptional circumstances”, but Afghanistan Cricket Board later confirmed to ESPN’s Cricinfo that it was for a “breach of ICC’s code of conduct.

After Afghanistan succumbed to 11 runs defeat against India on June 22, Aftab Alam was initially suspended for two games by coach Phil Simmons for not being present at an ICC anti corruption unit meeting in Southampton the following day.
