There is rarely a moment when MS Dhoni is surrounded by controversy as the former captain is known for keeping his cool in every possible situation. MS Dhoni recently came under scanner when he used Indian Army Para forces insignia on his gloves during India’s first World Cup match against South Africa.
The picture of Dhoni’s gloves immediately went viral on social media with fans pouring love for his gesture towards Indian Army. The International Cricket Council (ICC) was quick to notice and requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for removing the symbol from Dhoni’s gloves.
The ICC equipment and clothing regulations do not permit the display of messages that relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes during an international match.
MS Dhoni’s teammate from Chennai Super Kings, Suresh Raina took to his official Twitter handle to support the former’s gesture. Raina wrote, “While we are on the field, we devote ourselves to our country & we give all we can to make India proud. We all love our country & that’s exactly @msdhoni has done, saluting the sacrifices of our heroes & honouring them. It should be taken as an act of patriotism & not nationalism.”
Former cricketer RP Singh also came in support of MS Dhoni as he wrote on his Twitter account, “Tough for me to understand how @msdhoni's on field gesture on his glove is a problem to @ICC. His fans have taken inspiration out of it and he himself is a respected Lt.Col, really strange.”

The matter is still being looked at by the ICC, while the BCCI and the CoA have supported MS Dhoni’s gesture and backed him to wear the gloves.
