Hashim Amla just 90 runs away from breaking Virat Kohli's ODI record

South Africa will start their World Cup campaign today against the host England at the Oval cricket ground. South African opener Hashim Amla has his eyes all set on breaking Virat Kohli’s long standing ODI record of fastest 8’000 runs.

Amla is just 90 runs short from achieving the mark and if he does it today against the host England, he will be replacing Indian captain Virat Kohli at the top spot in the list of fastest batsmen to score 8000 runs in ODI format.

Kohli achieved this feet in 175 innings while Amla has played 171 innings in his ODI career, till date. If Amla hits a huge score in todays game, he will also better Kohli’s record by three innings.

Hashim Amla currently holds the record for being the fastest batsman to score 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 ODI runs.

If he goes past the 8000 ODI runs mark, he will be the fourth South African cricketer to do so. Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers and Herschelle Gibbs are the other South African batsmen to have achieved the benchmark.

 Kallis has 11,550 runs while on the contrary de Villiers and Gibbs has 9427 and 8094 runs in the 50 over format. Amla is also on the verge of becoming the second South African batsman to score 1000 runs against England as he is just 37 runs short.

Kallis is the only Proteas who has achived this height.
