Mumbai Indians beat Kings XI Punjab by 3 wickets in thrilling match last night at Wankhede stadium. When the men in blue visited Punjab on May 30, they were defeated by 7 wickets. Kieron Pollard who was stand-in captain in absence of Rohit Sharma, took revenge on Punjab yesterday. Gayle-storm and KL Rahul show was overshadowed by Polly's power.
After winning the toss, Mumbai Indians decided to bowl first. Kings XI Punjab started really well with both their openers scoring a half-century each. Chris Gayle scored 63 off 36 balls before he was dismissed by Jason Behrendorff. Where as KL Rahul went on to convert fifty into a hundred. Rahul hit 100 off 64 balls and remained unbeaten.
David Miller, Karun Nair and Sam Curran, all of them were dismissed in a single digit score by Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah respectively. KL Rahul finished the first innings with Mandeep Singh as Singh scored 3-ball 7 and remained not-out. Punjab finished the innings at 197-4 in 20 overs which seemed a big total for a team like Mumbai without Rohit Sharma.
Mumbai started their innings with Quinton de Kock and Siddhesh Lad. Lad scored 13-ball 15 which included a six and a four before he was bowled out by Mohammed Shami. Suryakumar Yadav came in and scored 15-ball 21 before he was dismissed by Sam Curran. Ravi Ashwin dismissed Quinton de Kock for 23-ball 24.
Mumbai was 62-3 when skipper Kieron Pollard decided to promote himself up the order. Wickets kept falling at the other end but Pollard was the lone man standing as he hit 83 off 31 just balls including 10 sixes and three fours to take his team 194 before he was dismissed in the last over by Ankit Rajpoot. But the job was almost done, Alzarri Joseph finished it with ball the other day, yesterday he did it with the bat. Mumbai won the match in the last ball of the game and the skipper was definitely happy as were the team.
