Former Pakistan skippers Shahid Afridi and Zaheer Abbas believes that Sarfaraz Ahmed should be removed from the Test captaincy, despite the fact that he can lead the national side in ODIs.
Shahid Afridi while speaking to the press felt that while the call to keep Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain of the ODI and T20 seemed resonable but he is not a perfect fit for Test cricket.
"I think it would be better for him if Sarfaraz didn't become the Test captain because I think captaining in three formats is a big burden for him. He is naturally inclined to be a successful captain in the limited over cricket formats," Afridi said.
Sarfaraz Ahmed has been Pakistan’s captain across all formats since 2017, but has received a lot of reprovals in the red ball cricket where Pakistan has plummeted to seventh place in the ICC rankings.
Pakistan legend Zaheer Abbas also joined hands with Afridi in this matter.
"I don't think he can manage the pressure of captaining in three formats. He would be better off only managing the ODI and T20 formats," Zaheer said.
"Test cricket is the most difficult format in cricket and it is not easy captaining in this format. Sarfaraz should be allowed to focus on 50-overs and T20 cricket," he said.
Zaheer Abbas stated that Pakistan should consider other options for the Test captaincy. He also welcomed the decision to appoint Misbah as the head coach and chief selector and stated that both posts should remain enclusive.
"I think there will be lot of pressure on Misbah handling both things plus he doesn't have coaching experience at the top level," he added.
