The World Cup 2019 has begun with a match between England and South Africa played at the Oval stadium. The match saw players achieving many milestones with Imran Tahir becoming the first spinner to bowl the first over in a World Cup. Tahir also became the oldest player ever to represent South Africa after Omar Henry.

South Africa is also known as ‘chokers’ because of their last-minute collapse but yesterday something unexpected happened. South Africa lost their opening match of the World Cup for the first time in 27 years. South Africa has never lost their first match of any World Cup but yesterday with their 104 runs defeat a history was written.

England won the match with 10.1 overs to spare as South Africa were bundled out for 207 runs. Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen were the only batsmen to cross the 50-run mark in South African batting line-up.

Ben Stokes, Jason Roy, Joe Root and skipper Eoin Morgan were the batsmen who performed well for England. All of them crossed the 50-run mark fluently with Stokes scoring the highest. Stokes was just 11 runs shy when he was dismissed by Lungi Ngidi for 89 runs.
