Cricket Selection Committee Chairman MSK Prasad today clarified that wicketkeeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be part of the team till the 2019 World Cup, because the young wicketkeepers who were trying in the team did not even have the performance matching the level of former captain. Prasad's thoughts made it clear that Delhi captain Rishabh Pant has now fallen from the selectors' favorite list and Dinesh Karthik, 32, is in the role of second wicketkeeper in the team.
When Prasad was asked about MS Dhoni's wicketkeeping, he said "We are grooming some wicketkeepers during India A tours. But more or less, we have fixed (our) minds until the World Cup (on continuing with Dhoni) and after that at later stages, we will start grooming some of those (wicket-keepers)."
"I think MS Dhoni still remains the No. 1 wicket-keeper in the world and day in and day out we have been saying this. In the current T20 series (against Sri Lanka), the stumping he has effected and caught-behind he has taken are phenomenal," Prasad was effusive in his praise.
"There is no comparison and I don't see any wicketkeeper who can even come close to him in world cricket, leave alone Indian Cricket," Prasad added.
