West Indies batting legend Brian Lara likened Virat Kohli to a run machine and said that the Indian skipper is way ahead of rest of the world. Lara also revealed his favorite cricketer between Virat Kohli and former Indian great Sachin Tendulkar.
“He (Virat Kohli) is a (run) machine. But sorry to say Sachin Tendulkar is my (choice),” Lara said after being conferred the Doctorate in Science (Honours Causa) by the D Y Patil University in Nerul here.
“But getting back to your question, no doubt there is a huge gap between Virat Kohli and the rest of the world in all forms of the game. Rohit Sharma might have got four centuries in this World Cup, (Jonny) Bairstow or whatever, if you want somebody to bat in T20, T10, 100 balls (cricket) or Test cricket, it is going to be Virat Kohli today,” Lara was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express.
Lara also said that it is because of Sachin that Indian batsmen are able to score freely on different pitches. It is Sachin who instilled that confidence into them when he showed that Indian batsmen can score anywhere in the world if they want.
Lara has scored 22,358 runs in international cricket and recently Virat Kohli broke his record of becoming the fastest batsman to score 20,000 international runs. Lara held that record jointly with Sachin Tendulkar.
