The much-awaited clash of 2019 World Cup has arrived as India will play South Africa in Southampton on Wednesday. Virat Kohli-led team India will look to win their first match against morally down Proteas who lost their first two matches of the tournament.
Ahead of the match, South African pacer Dale Steyn was ruled out of the World Cup because of his shoulder injury that struck him during his small stint at the Indian Premier League. Dale Steyn was included in South Africa’s World Cup squad, keeping in mind that he may recover from the injury.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the news saying that Steyn suffered from a second shoulder injury. The official Twitter handle of Cricket World Cup wrote, “BREAKING: Dale Steyn is out of #CWC19 after suffering a second shoulder injury which has not responded to treatment. Left-arm fast bowler @Beuran_H13 joins the squad ahead of tomorrow's crucial clash against India in Southampton.”
Dale Steyn is replaced by left-arm pacer Beuran Hendricks after ICC’s Event Technical committee’s approval.
Hashim Amla’s inclusion in the team is also under clouds as he faced head injury in their first match against England. Lungi Ngidi might also be out of the team after he faced an injury against Bangladesh.
