Indian Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been diagnosed with sports hernia just before India’s tour of New Zealand starting next month, Which is a big blow taking into consideration his ability to use the conditions to good impact. The 29-year-old has 33 wickets in 19 ODI under his belt at an average of 23.75 in 2019.
“ There is no assurance on surgery, but the customary procedure for sports hernia is surgery. I am planning to see a doctor abroad next week. Only after that, i will be able to decide on my comeback. As of now, i dont know when will i be able to make a comeback. It could be a day, a week or even a month. It all depends on the diagnosis and treatment,” Bhuvi said while talking to TOI.
Bhuvi, who has featured in 21 Tests, 114 ODIs and 43 T20Is, stated, “Injuries are something you cannot prevent. It’s part and parcel of a sportsman’s life. I want to play cricket. Right now I am completely off it. I am just waiting to get back to the game. It could be frustrating at times,” he stated.

Be it white ball or red ball cricket, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been consistent throughout. However, he is not thinking of the ICC T20I World Cup, which is to be held in Australia, starting 18 October next year.
“I am not thinking about the World Cup yet. I just wish I would be free from injuries for the World Cup. I missed a few games in the 2019 World Cup because of a hamstring injury. My prime concern righr now is to get fit. But once i return, i will start planning for the World Cup,” Bhuvi said.
The pacer’s injury yet again brought the National Cricket Academy (NCA) into limelight. But the latter kept away from talking about NCA.
“I did not go to the NCA again after I was diagnosed with the sports hernia. But I will be going there again for the rehabilitation. It’s up to BCCI as to how they are going to how they are going to take it.
"They must have had a chat with the NCA. NCA must have tried their best but i don’t know when went wrong and why they were not able to diagnose. Still i am not the right person to comment on that as i might say something else and the BCCI might come up with a different conclusion,” the 29-year-old added.
Previously, cricketers like Ravichandran Ashwin, former England skipper Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Flintoff and Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal have all been the victim of sports hernia.

What Is Sports Hernia?
A sports hernia is a painful, soft tissue injury that occurs in the groin area. It often happens in sports that require instant change of direction or intense twisting movements.
Although a sports hernia may lead to a traditional, abdominal hernia, it is a different injury. A sports hernia is a strain or tear of any soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament) in the lower abdomen or groin area.
Because different tissues may be affected and a traditional hernia may not exist, the medical community prefers the term "athletic pubalgia" to refer to this type of injury. The general public is more familiar with "sports hernia,".
