Following India’s defeat to New Zealand in the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2019, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has distanced himself from cricket as speculations aggravated during his absence.
India’s chief selector MSK Prasad stated that Indian cricket has started looking beyond MS Dhoni as the rumours about his retirement started heating up. With that being said, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has also emerged and spoke about those rumours.
The BCCI president on Friday stated that there is ample time to resolve MS Dhoni’s cricketing career and things will appear clearer in a few months.
When asked about Ravi Shastri’s reported comment that IPL 2020 will give clearer picture on MS Dhoni’s future, Ganguly said, “We will see what happens, there’s enough time. Of course it will get clear (within three months).”
MS Dhoni has not featured in any of India’s game after the men in blue’s semifinal exit in the World Cup. The Rachi cricketer has so far denied to make a comment regarding his future.
Previously, at an event, MS Dhoni had stated that questions in relation to his return to cricket should only be asked after January 2020.
But Sourav Ganguly stated that there was absolute clarity among the team think-tank on how to act towards his future.
“No no, there is clarity, but certain things cannot be said on public platform. There is absolute clarity on MS Dhoni and you’ll find out in time,” Ganguly said on the sidelines of a felicitation ceremony organised by Ajanta Shoes.
“There’s transparency between the Board, MS and the selectors. When you deal with such champions -- MS Dhoni is an unbelievable athlete for India -- certain things have to be kept within the closed doors. It’s very transparent and everybody knows where they stand.”
