All-rounder Kedar Jadhav a major member of Chennai Super Kings line-up is likely to miss the play-offs due to shoulder injury. This is a bad news for India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as Jadhav was part of India’s 15-member World Cup squad that will travel to England and Wales late this month.
Jadhav injured his left shoulder while fielding for Chennai Super Kings in a match against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali. CSK coach Stephen Fleming in a post match press conference said that Jadhav will go for x-ray and a scan tomorrow. We are hopeful for him although I don’t think we will see him anymore in this tournament. Fingers crossed but it did not look that good.
Kedar hurt his shoulder in the 14th over over bowled by Dwayne Bravo who was not able to grab the ball thrown by Ravindra Jadeja. Kedar was seen in pain after the dive and walked over the boundary ropes to be attended by CSK physio. Kedar did not take the field for the rest of the innings and Murali Vijay replaced him. Vijay dropped Nicholas Pooran right after coming in place of Jadhav.
Chennai Super Kings lost the match by 6 wickets as Kings XI Punjab chased down 170 runs in 18 overs. Punjab won the toss and asked Chennai to bat first. Shane Watson was the first wicket Punjab claimed but Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina notched up a 120 run partnership stand. Raina scored 53 off 38 while du Plessis went on to score 96 runs before he was dismissed by Sam Curran off a wonderful yorker.
KL Rahul from Punjab hit the third fastest half-century of IPL 2019 as he scored 71 off 36 before falling to Harbhajan Singh. Gayle and Pooran also contributed with their bats to give Punjab a victory in their last match. Punjab did not qualify for the play-offs while CSK was fighting for the top two spot on the points table.
