Australian batsman Cameron Bancroft finally responded to media reports claiming English wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow allegedly "head-butted" him during a night out in Perth earlier this month.
"There was certainly no malice in his action and we continued on having very good conversations for the rest of the evening. At the time, he said sorry. For me, it was just really weird. It was so random; I didn't expect it coming. A handshake or a hug is something I would have expected more than a head-butt," Bancroft said, addressing the media in a post-match conference after Australia won the first Ashes Test with ease.
Meanwhile, the Australian captain, Steve Smith, who sat alongside the opener, could barely control his hysterics while his teammate was being questioned about a potential incident of physical abuse.
Smith could not stop giggling and snickering as Bancroft continued to keep a straight face.
Australia won the first Ashes Test by ten wickets, taking a 1-0 series lead against England. The second Ashes Test will start on December 2 in Adelaide.
