Ab De Villiers announced his retirement on May 23rd and left us all wondering and shocked as to what could have made the player retire at an age of 34 when he was playing so brilliantly shaming many 20-year-olds with his agility and skills.
The former test captain of South Africa said he “ran out of gas” while announcing his farewell from the cricket on May 23. Not many expected this announcement, at least not before the World Cup 2019.
"I've had my turn and, to be honest, I'm tired," he said. "This is a tough decision. I've thought long and hard about it and I'd like to retire still playing decent cricket. It would not be right for me to pick and choose where, when and in what format I play for the Proteas. For me, in green and gold, it must be everything or nothing," De Villiers Concluded.
De Villiers was more than a player and he was popular in South Africa and the world alike. Such was his stature that Indian fans chanted praises for the legend even when he was crushing the blue army.
