Ahead of its roll out, Tata Motors on 17 July introduced two new engines and a gear box for its all new SUV Nexon that will be launched before the Diwali.
The new power-trains--a 1.2L petrol from the Revotron series and a 1.5L diesel engine from the Revotorq family, are performance-oriented and offer higher fuel efficiency and performance.
The Nexon is the short form of 'Next-On' and signifies next level of things. The Nexon made its debut at the Auto Expo 2016, the company said in a release.
Designed at Tata Motors' in-house facility in Pune, the engines have been indigenously developed with inputs from renowned global technology suppliers like AVL, Bosch, Mahale and Honeywell, the company said.
While the Revotron engines will be manufactured at the Sanand facility, the Revotorq engines will be produced at the Ranjangaon facility, the company added.
On the occasion, Mayank Pareek, president, passenger vehicles business unit at Tata Motors said, "We are not leaving any stones unturned while we prepare to launch the all new Nexon."
"Both these engines have been designed and developed after extensive feedback from auto enthusiasts, expert drivers, followed by extensive testing across India, on different terrains," he said.
"We are confident that this new family of engines will further help us build our brand and deliver a memorable experience on-road," Pareek said.
He also said that the new engines will be light on weight and low on friction, delivering high performance and fuel economy.
The four-cylinder diesel engine will offer a maximum power of 110 ps at 3,750 rpm, and a maximum torque of 260 Nm at 1,500-27,50 rpm, while the three-cylinder petrol engine offers a maximum power of 110 ps at 5,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 170 Nm at 2,000-4,000 rpm.
The new transmission--TA6300-- offers synchromesh with overdrive and comes with six forward gears and one reverse.
