Study in India: Nirmala Sitharaman boosts education sector; top 5 announcements in Budget 2019

India’s first female Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharama is currently presenting Modi government’s first in Parliament today (July 5) in the form of traditional bahi khaata (account ledger).

In her budget speech, Sitharaman made a big announcement for NRI students by unveiling 'Study in India' project to boost the education sector.


Under this project, International students can visit India for their higher education, FM said.

Besides this announcement, check out other major announcements that she made to boost education sector:

1. Finance Minister Sitharaman has proposed to allocate Rs 400 crore for world-class higher educational institutes in India. By funding, more Indian educational institutes would be featured on world rankings.

2. National research foundation to fund, coordinate and to promote research in the country.

3. New national education policy to propose changes in school, higher education

4. New Higher Education Commission with a focus on higher autonomy

5. Government plans to improve skills of youth in newer areas like robotics, artificial intelligence and data science.

National Sports Education Board under Khelo India scheme

Finance Minister also announced in the budget that the National Sports Education Board will be set up under the Khelo India scheme.

What is Gandhi-pedia?

Sitharaman said that to sensitize India’s youth about Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology, Gandhi-pedia will soon to run.
