Kotputli, Jaipur (Rajasthan) : As the government promotes electric vehicles (EVs) to reduce air and noise pollution, many citizens are buying these eco-friendly vehicles. However, the lack of charging stations in the area is forcing EV owners to charge their vehicles at home. Despite the central government's efforts to promote EVs, the state government has not taken concrete steps to encourage their adoption.
Currently, there is not a single charging station in the area, and EV owners are forced to charge their vehicles at home, which takes a long time.
Moreover, petrol pump operators have not paid attention to setting up charging stations at their outlets. There is only one charging station on the highway near Behror.
The district transport office has reported that 350 e-rickshaws, 271 e-bikes, 11 three-wheelers, 14 motorcars, and 8 mopeds have been registered so far. However, the absence of charging stations is hindering the growth of EVs in the region.
In a related development, a private company is setting up a charging station at a hotel on the highway, which is in its final stages.
Meanwhile, hybrid cars, which have both petrol and electric engines, are becoming popular in the market. These cars have two types of engines, which provide power to the vehicle.
According to Amit Sharma, District Transport Officer, Kotputli, "There is no charging station at any petrol pump on the highway, and no one has applied for permission to set up one. A private company is setting up a charging station at a hotel."
