The government of India has issued a statement about the revised rates of the dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees, as per the Department of Expenditure. The new rates are in effect from January 1, 2022.

"Revised rates of, DA to the central government employees and Central Autonomous Bodies continuing to draw their pay in the pre-revised Pay Scale/Grade Pay as per 5th Central Pay Commission from 01.01.2022," the Department of Expenditure said in an office memorandum dated April 7, 2022.

The DA for such employees has been augmented from the existing 368 per cent to 381 per cent.

"Revised rates of Dearness Allowance to the employees of Central Government and Central Autonomous Bodies continuing to draw their pay in the pre-revised Pay Scale/Grade Pay as per 6th Central Pay Commission from 01.01.2022," the Department of Expenditure stated in the office memorandum.

The DA for such employees has been spiralled from the present rate of 196 per cent to 203 per cent.

Earlier on 30th March 2022, the union cabinet presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi augmented the DA for central government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners from the current rate of 31 per cent of the basic pay or pension to 34 per cent to "compensate for price rise."

The rise was in line with the accepted formula, which is based on the directions of the 7th Central Pay Commission.

On 21st October, 2021, the DA and DR were increased from 28 per cent of the basic pay or pension to 31 per cent.

Previously on 14th July, 2021, the DA and DR were raised from 17 per cent to 28 per cent.
