Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Almost 2.75 lakh beneficiaries have been benefited under the scheme

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, a subsidy scheme that has provided benefit to around 2.75 lakh people in the country. The State of Gujarat has been given the top position with most number of people who availed subsidy under the scheme. The data was revealed by the government on Wednesday.

After Gujarat, the other states that have the most number of beneficiaries under the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) are Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.


If taken data into consideration, in Gujarat around 88,000 beneficiaries have taken the advantage of CLSS followed by 74,000 people in Madhya Pradesh. This scheme is basically for people who fall under three categories: economically weaker section (EWS), low income group (LIG) and middle income group (MIG) categories under the PMAY (U).

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra said, “More than 15,000 beneficiaries have got CLSS in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh each, followed by Tamil Nadu with 12,000 beneficiaries.”

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna is basically for people who want to construct their own home. The Central Government has come forward with this scheme to help the people with the subsidy to build their own homes. The scheme has four components – CLSS, In Situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) and Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC).

BLC has turned out to be the most popular with 56 percent in the category of popularity among beneficiaries. AHP on the other hand stand at 33 percent, ISSR with 7 percent, and CLSS with 4 percent.

Mishra said the cumulative number of houses sanctioned under the PMAY (U) so far is 65,04,037 with the approval of construction for around 2.05 lakh more affordable houses for the benefit of urban poor under PMAY on Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the government has an aim to sanction 80 lakh houses out of which 12 lakh have already been alloted to the beneficiaries.
