Newton movie: India's Oscar entry to get a whopping amount from centre

The newly released dark comedy film Newton has created a buzz in media with its official entry in Oscar. The film is nominated under Best Foreign Film language category at the Oscars. The decision to send Newton's name was taken by 14-member jury committee of film federation of India. The committee was headed by Telugu film producer-director C V Reddy.

The Hindi language film is also getting Rs 1 crore by the Central government, and the film will become the first-ever film to get such a whopping amount by the central government. While talking to The Times of India chairman of the jury C V Reddy said, “The amount is being given to encourage good and meaningful cinema.”

Other than Newton film's like Bahubali 2: The Conclusion and Balakrishna were among the entries send to FFI for Oscar entries. Total 26 different movies were sent to the committee to chose the Oscar nomination, in which one film was in Tamil and two film was in Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam. The maximum number of films sent in Hindi (total-12) and Marathi language (total-5).

The film Newton is directed by Amit Masurkar and starring Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi and Anjali Patil. The film released across India on 21st September.
