The filmmaker expected a positive response for his recently released film, Indu Sarkar.
Bhandarkar's Indu Sarkar is set in the period of 1975-1977 when there was a state of emergency across the country. The film generated controversy since the time its trailer got released. Congress supporters criticised the director for portraying former Prime Minister of India Mrs Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi in a bad light. However, the director clarified that it was not a biopic on Mrs Gandhi the Supreme Court also refused to stay the release of the film and quoted it as an artistic expression within the parameters of the law.
Talking about the situation, Bhandarkar was recently quoted saying that he is upset with other filmmakers who didn't support his film. "I am really upset as I had thought to get a good response and support from the industry but I did not receive it. They might be having their own reasons as the film is tagged as a political drama so they must have thought why to get into this controversy and support him."
The filmmaker has not been vocal about any other projects after Indu Sarkar
