Kargil War: Actors who played real war heroes on screen

Kargil war's 18th anniversary will be observed on 26 July. The sacrifices made by the army men to turn the wave in India's favour against Pakistan are remembered till date.

A lot of stories of the war heroes have been told over the years. Director JP Dutta, who is a master in making war films, portrayed the Kargil war heroes' stories in a beautiful manner.

JP Dutta directed LOC Kargil in 2003 and the film was totally based on that war and its heroes. Although the film was a flop at the box office, it was appreciated a lot. Many big actors played important and real life-based characters in the film.

We are throwing the spotlight on the actors who played real life Kargil heroes on screen in LoC:

1. Sanjay Dutt - Lt. Col. Yogesh Kumar Joshi

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, popularly known as Sanju Baba, played the role of Lt. Col Yogesh Kumar Joshi, who was the commanding officer of 13th Batallion in Kargil war. He was honoured with Vir Chakra for his achievements during the war.

2. Ajay Devgn - Capt. Manoj Kumar Pandey

Ajay Devgn played the role of Capt. Manoj Kumar Pandey, who died while serving his nation in the attack on Jubar Top, Khalubar Hills in Batalik Sector, Kargil.

3. Sunil Shetty - Rfn. Sanjay Kumar

Sunil Shetty, who is quite popular for his role in acclaimed film Border, again donned the army uniform for LOC Kargil. This time he played the role of a Junior Commissioned officer Sanjay Kumar.

4. Abhishek Bachchan - Capt. Vikram Batra

Abhishek Bachchan played the most known face of Kargil war, Capt. Vikram Batra. Vikram Batra led one of the toughest operations in mountain warfare in Indian history. He sacrificed his life in the war.

5. Saif Ali Khan - Capt. Anuj Nayyar

Saif played the role of youngest Capt. Anuj Nayyar who died in the war while combating with Pakistani soldiers.

6. Manoj Bajpayee - Gren. Yogendra Singh Yadav

Manoj Bajpayee played the role of a young soldier of Kargil war and he was also the youngest person to ever be awarded the Param Vir Chakra.

7. Nagarjuna - Maj. Acharya Padmapani

Telugu star Nagarjuna essayed the role of Major Padmapani Acharya, who sacrificed his life during a battle with opponents in the war.

8. Akshaye Khanna - Lt. Balwan Singh Panghal

Akshaye Khanna played the role of Lt. Balwan Singh, who is now a Colonel, who not only gave a tough fight to opponents but also defeated death.

9. Amar Upadhyay - Capt. Vijayant Thapar

Amar Upadhyay played the role of Capt. Vijayant Thapar, whose life is an inspiration. He was the person who helped a 6 years old girl, who lost her speech in personal tragedy, in the midst of the war. Vijayant Thapat lost his life in battle ground of Kargil.

10. Sanjay Kapoor - Maj. Deepak Rampal

Sanjay Kapoor lived the life of Maj. Deepak Rampal on screen in LOC Kargil film. Major Deepak Rampal was on the duty of the toughest point 4875 and he killed most of the nation's enemies in that war.
