Recently, the teaser of Abhishek Varman directorial Kalank starring Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha has been out. The teaser and posters of the film has already made a huge buzz about the film. The film has made under Karan Johar's production house but let us tell you that there was a time when the film was supposed to be made quite earlier.
According to Karan Johar, he planned the film to make just after the release of Kaal but something happened that made him to shelve the film. As soon the teaser of the film has come out, one page of Karan Johar's autobiography An Unsuitable Boy has started being viral on social media. In this page, it has written that Kalank was planned to be made more than a decade ago.
In An Unsuitable Boy, Karan Johar wrote, "When my father was alive, I was writing a love story set in pre-partition times. But the canvas was too large, It was supposed to have Shah Rukh, Ajay, Rani and Kajol. It was about homes, and it had a Hindu-Muslim angle. It was a very strong subject, and would be called Kalank."

Even when Karan Johar shared the first still of Kalank, he wrote on Instagram, "A film that was born in my heart and mind 15 years ago....a film I passionately believe in...the last film my father worked on before he left us....it was his dream to see this film come through....I couldn’t fulfil his dream then....my spirit was broken....but today his wish has found a relationship with celluloid....the story of turbulent relationships and eternal love has found a voice....the film has been woven,nurtured and visualised by ABHISHEK VARMAN....and the film Is KALANK! Let us tell you that this multistarrer film Kalank directed by Abhishek Varman who also directed 2 States is slated to release on 17th April 2019.
