#Interview: Vidyut Jammwal on Commando 2 and why don’t we see him often in Hindi films!

Four years after Commando, Vidyut Jammwal is gearing up for the release of Commando 2. The actor thinks that the industry has evolved over the last few years and audiences are eager to see something that they have not experienced till date.

In a conversation with us, Jammwal spoke about the film and shared his thoughts on competition within the industry.

Excerpts from the interview:

Was it a conscious decision to make Commando 2 look much bigger than the first part in terms of scale?

The idea to make the film on a much bigger scale was of course there because people had loved Commando and we didn’t want to serve them the same stuff. The most important thing was to be responsible that the fans are not disappointed. We had to raise the benchmark for action and we took 6 to 7 hours to create the whole scene.

What made you take up the decision to choreograph your own action?

I think I am the best in terms of action. We had a good number of choreographers from west in Commando 2, but I knew what I can do the best. If somebody knows his capability to pull of an action scene, it is better to have suggestions in designing the action as well.

Do you think slow motion action sequences take away the essence of action shot in real time?

I personally think they do, but we had shot them in real time as well. But the action we do in real time are so quick that it would be difficult for the audiences to pick it up. We need to slow down a certain action scenes for the audiences.

Has the Hindi film audience evolved in the last few years?

All the audiences have access to internet now and are exposed to international cinema. Even the audiences of my films have watched films from Hollywood, so for me it was challenging to make a film which has action on a different level.

After Commando, there have been several films which raised the bar in terms of action. How do you see this competition in the film industry?

We when started Commando, nobody in the country was doing what we did in that film. People were busy making films with those larger than life unreal action scenes. Commando stopped that and our industry started doing what we were supposed to do. Now with Commando 2, I am waiting to see what others can do.

Why don’t we see you often in films?

When you go to a shop, you don’t pick up everything that is available. You pick up things that you like and as far as scripts are concerned, I do films that I believe in. If you ask me today, I have already signed 3 films. I am currently shooting for Baadshaho and after that I move on to another film that would be produced by Vipul Shah. I am also a part of a film called Junglee produced by Junglee Pictures.
