Akshay Kumar’s film on sanitation performed well on day one
Akshay Kumar’s much talked about film Toilet-Ek Prem Katha released this week. The film stars Bhumi Pednekar and deals with issue of open defecation. The film saw 30-35% occupancy on day and it collected Rs. 13.10 crore. Akshay’s previous films too have opened with similar numbers in the past whether it is Jolly LLB 2(Rs. 13.20 crore) or Rustom (Rs.14.11crore) and Housefull 3(Rs.15.21 crore).
It is expected do well considering it's a holiday weekend and because of the subject, even though it has received mixed reviews. It has been made with limited budget of Rs. 18 crore and is released in 3000 screens in India. According to trade experts since next week there are two holidays Independence Day August 15 and Pateti festival August 17, footfalls are likely to increase. Moreover in some parts of India, it has also been made tax free. Although Akshay did not go out of his way to promote this film but it is said that so far the word of mouth is good and it is working in favour of the film.
