Bollywood veteran actress and Alia Bhatt mother Soni Razdan has recently sparked controversy after raising questions against the death penalty given to the 2001 Parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru. He was hanged on February 9, 2013.
In her statement, Soni called Afzal Guru a ‘scapegoat’ and also demanded a probe into the matter.
Afzal had also written a letter to his lawyer, Afzal had accused Jammu and Kashmir police officer DSP Davinder Singh for his involvement in the attack at the Indian Parliament.
However, J&K DSP has been arrested in the company of militants earlier this month.
Taking to Twitter, Mahesh Bhatt's wife Soni wrote, “This is a travesty of justice. Who is going to bring back a man from the dead if he is innocent? This is why the death penalty is not to be used lightly.”
Her comment on Afzal Guru has started row on social media and netizens have also slammed her for showing support to terrorist Afzal Guru.
'There Should be Inquiry into Why Davinder Singh Was Let off after Afzal... https://t.co/rEaEEdl1Aw via @YouTube There should also be an enquiry as to how people like Afzal are tortured and forced to carry out terrorist activities for criminals and then get the death penalty !

Later, she clarified her statement and wrote, “No one is saying he is innocent. But if he was tortured and then ordered by his torturer to do what he did isn’t that what needed to be fully investigated? Why did no one take his allegations about Devinder Singh seriously? That’s the travesty.”
