Surat: Six Aam Aadmi Party corporators join BJP

Surat (Gujarat): Six corporators of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday in the presence of Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi.


The move comes after four AAP councillors joined the BJP earlier. The BJP's strength in the Surat Municipal Corporation has now increased to 103.

Congress not in the picture
AAP won 27 seats in the 2021 Surat Municipal Corporation polls.
BJP won 93 of the 120 seats. Congress failed to win any seats.

Names of the corporators
The six AAP corporators, namely Swati Kyada, Nirali Patel, Dharmendra Vavliya, Ashok Dhami, Kiran Khokhani and Ghanshyam Makwana, took BJP membership.

Earlier, four AAP councillors Rita Khaini, Jyoti Lathia, Bhavna Solanki and Vipul Movaliya, had also joined the BJP.

In the 2021 Gujarat civic polls, AAP had won 27 seats in the Surat Municipal Corporation, while BJP had won 93 of the 120 seats. Congress failed to register a victory on any seats. With the joining of these 10 corporators from the AAP, the BJP's strength in the Surat Municipal Corporation has increased to 103.
