My name is not 'Rahul Savarkar', won't apologise for truth: Rahul Gandhi at Bharat Bachao rally
Former Congress president and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday has again refused to apologize for his 'rape in India' comment made during a rally and said I will never apologize for the truth.
Addressing at Congress' Bharat Bachao rally being held in Delhi's Ramlila Maidan, the Congress leader said, "I was told in Parliament by BJP yesterday'Rahul ji, you gave a speech. Apologize for that.' I was told to apologize for something which is right. My name is not Rahul Savarkar. My name is Rahul Gandhi. I will never apologize for the truth."
"No one from Congress party will apologize. It is Narendra Modi who should apologize. He should apologize to the nation. His assistant Amit Shah should apologize to the nation. I will tell you why they should that," Rahu Gandhi said.
This apart, the former Congress president also hit out at Modi-govt and said, "It is Prime Minister Modi himself and not India's enemies who has destroyed our economy, and he still calls himself a patriot."
"The country knows the situation today. They work to create divides - between religions - in Jammu Kashmir, in Northeast. Go to Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh. Go & see what Narendra Modi did there, he has set ablaze those regions," Rahul Gandhi said at the rally.
Apart from Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior leaders of the party also addressed to the rally.
"Time has come to save the country and we have to struggle hard for it," Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Addressing at the rally Dr Singh said, "PM Narendra Modi has failed to fulfill its poll promises."
He also urged the Congress workers to strengthen the party.
"In six months, PM Modi's government has wrecked India's economy. Yet ministers are completely clueless. Yesterday Finance Minister said everything's alright, we are on top of the world. The only thing she didn't say was 'achhe din aane wale hain'," Chidambaram said.
Congress General secretary Priyanka Gandhi also attacked the Modi-led govt and said, "What is this country? This is a country born of a movement that used the power of nonviolence and love to defeat the greatest conquerors of the time. This is a country of love, nonviolence, and brotherhood."
"I would like to tell every citizen of this country - raise your voice. You love this country, become its voice. If we don't raise our voice, stay back in the darkness of fear and lies even in these circumstances; stay quiet then our Constitution will be destroyed," she added.
Congress party workers from across the country have participated in this rally, which was being organized to highlight several issues including "sluggish economy, rising unemployment, and farmers' problems."
The rally of the Congress party was earlier scheduled to be held on November 30 but was later postponed to December 14 in view of the Winter Session of the Parliament, which concluded on Friday.
