Lakshadweep: BJP shuts down party's unit on Androth Island

Lakshadweep: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has shut down its party office on Androth Island in Lakshadweep. Senior BJP leaders, during their recent visit to Kavaratti, confirmed that the office has been closed since March 1 this year, following oral instructions from the party's state unit president, KN Kasmikoya. The reason for the closure remains unclear, leaving party workers concerned as they await further directives.
Androth's political significance
Androth, a key political hub in Lakshadweep, plays a crucial role in shaping the region's political landscape. The closure of the BJP's office there has raised questions about the party’s strategy in the union territory. Party workers are keenly observing the developments, hoping for clarity from the leadership.
KN Kasmikoya's leadership continues
In January, BJP leader KN Kasmikoya was re-elected as the president of the party's Lakshadweep unit for a second term. The election, monitored by a central team led by former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan and BJP leader G Kashinath, was uncontested. Kasmikoya's nomination was proposed by state general secretary Siraj Koya and supported by HK Mohammed Qasim, highlighting the party's unity and his strong leadership.
Kasmikoya’s political journey
Kasmikoya has a vast political background, having served as a Sub-Divisional Officer (Executive Magistrate) and district panchayat member before joining the BJP from Congress. His administrative experience and deep understanding of local issues could benefit the party in strengthening its presence in Lakshadweep.
National-level promotion for Syed Mohammed Koya
The BJP has been making structural changes in its leadership. The recent elevation of Syed Mohammed Koya to a national committee position signals the party’s ongoing efforts to consolidate its political base in Lakshadweep. This move is expected to bolster the party's influence in the region.
Strengthening the youth wing
A few months ago, Advocate PM Mohammed Salih was appointed as the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) State President for Lakshadweep. Salih, a practising advocate and an active participant in political affairs, is expected to lead youth-focused initiatives in the region. With his appointment, the party aims to expand its outreach and address local developmental concerns through a youth-driven leadership model.
