Sources told India Today that the BJP leaders were detained because they didn’t have permission to hold the rally.

The BJP wanted to hold the march allegedly without police permission after which some top party leaders were taken away in a police van, sources said.

The CAA has been the latest political fire point in the state of West Bengal, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is among the most vociferous critics of the BJP. The TMC supremo criticized the centre government for allegedly destroying harmony in the country by trying to authoritatively implement the CAA, NPR and NRC.

Stating that she would not allow the implementation of CAA, NPR or NRC in Bengal, Mamata Banerjee had stated, "The BJP is trying to play a communal game in the name of implementing these. Be cautious about it.
