BJP all set to sweep Gujarat; Himachal witnesses tough fight between BJP and Congress
According to the initial trends, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has maintained a healthy lead in the Gujarat Assembly polls. Congress appears to be a distant second.
At the time of publishing the story ( 9:36 am), BJP is leading with 139 seats and appears to cross two-third majority mark when the final results are announced. Congress is trailing with 30 seats, a distant mark below the ruling party. The AAP which pulled out all stops to campaign in the state, is ahead on nine seats. These trends are based on media trends and keep fluctuating.
While on the other hand, there is a tough fight between BJP and Congress in Himachal Pradesh. BJP is leading in 34 seats while Congress have taken a lead in 33 seats.
The counting of votes polled in the elections began at 8 am on Thursday amid heavy security.
The ruling BJP contested all the 182 seats, while the new entrant in the state’s political landscape, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), contested 181 seats. The main opposition party, the Congress, contested 179 seats.
In the state Himachal Pradesh, the BJP and the Congress are neck-to-neck with neither reaching the majority mark.
