Days after series of rattling by 100 earthquakes in Hawaii's Puna county, a volcano erupted on Thursday afternoon.

Kilauea volcano has compelled more than 10,000 people to vacate their homes and move to some safer place. It has been more than a week that federal officials have been giving warning to residents to prepare for the present situation. Ongoing seismic activity has compelled the school to remain closed. Several roadways cracked under constant temblors.

A spokesperson of Hawaii County Janet Snyder said,"Red lava emerged on Mohala Street in the Leilani Estates subdivision. The county is ordering evacuations for homes from Luana Street to Pohohiki Road,"

Snyder also added that tremor of magnitude more than 3.0 shook the Big Island and there was one tremor which was more than 5.0 magnitude according to the US Geological Survey.

Geologists have taken images of layers of red ash covering the ground near the Puu Oo vent.
